Girls4Gold Leading Olympic Legacy Plans

ENGLAND Handball has launched an initiative designed to help teenage girls stay inspired by sport – and form an important part of handball’s Olympic legacy plans.

The Girls4Gold Handball Leadership Programme aims to find leaders for schemes across the country, which in turn will target over-14 girls and help them stay inspired by sport.

Traditionally, this age group sees high numbers drop out of sport, but England Handball wants to tap into this pool of talent and give the girls just as much chance to excel at handball as their male counterparts.

Once established, the scheme aims to be self sustaining, with the newly empowered young women then going on to inspire the next generation to try handball and stay in sport.

The Girls4Gold leadership course is designed to leave the participants inspired and able to run competitions and clubs in their own area, eventually forming part of a national network of female handball clubs.
