Girls' Under-19 competition: Hawks close gap on defending champions Cannock

NEM Hawks closed the gap on Olympia Cannock at the top of the Girls' under-19 North league to two points with victory over Nottingham.

Hawks, winners of the competition in 2016, took advantage of defending champions Cannock not being in action when they beat Nottingham 21-8. Nottingham lost their other match, against Peninsula, 8-22. Peninsula, in turn, lost to Shropshire 9-17. Shropshire also recorded a 14-11 win over Warrington Wolves. Shropshire are in third spot, three points behind Hawks, although they have played a match less. Wolves are in fourth, Peninsula in fifth and Nottingham sixth, although Peninsula, like Shropshire have played a match less.

Cambridge top the Girls’ South League One with one win and one defeat. The East Anglian side beat Olympia 21-7. However, they lost a nail-biter against Hackney GD 16-17. Poole Phoenix sit in second spot, ahead of Stroud on goal difference, after winning 18-10 against Ealing. Stroud beat Ealing as well, 18-15. Hackney, also have three points, but a goal difference of just one. Ealing are fifth and Olympia sixth.
