Coventry Sharks made it third-time lucky as they beat London GD to be crowned England Handball National Cup winners.
Sharks ran out 26-24 victors in a nerve-jangling finale to the match as they saw a healthy lead reduced in the final minutes.
Coventry led 15-12 at half time. They extended that advantage after the break, at one point holding a six-goal lead. GD dug deep. However, Sharks lead proved too big to close, as the West Midlands side avenged their defeat to GD in the 2015 final.
Aija Gremdze top scored for Sharks with seven goals, while Marta Podsiodlo beat the keeper six times. Coventry’s Marta Gutowska was named ‘Most Valuable Player’.
Nikola Szymura found the back of the net 10 times for GD.
