Women's Premier Handball League: Leaders GD face Angels

Women’s Premier Handball League table-toppers London GD face London Angels in a Capital City derby on Saturday.

West London Eagles play Coventry Sharks, Peninsula take on NEM Hawks, and Cambridge host Olympia.

GD hold a two-point lead over second-place Eagles and go into the match with a 100% record, having won all five of their matches. Angels are seventh in the table with just one victory to their name so far this term, although they’ve played a game less than sixth-place Cambridge who sit one point above them. Throw-off at Leyton Score Centre on Saturday is at 12.30.

Eagles entertain Coventry Sharks at Barking Sporthouse in what is sure to be a keenly contested match. Coventry are in fifth place but have played just three times. They won their last two matches, after a narrow defeat in their opener against GD. Eagles are bidding for a fourth straight win. They know a victory, combined with a defeat for GD, would move them level on points with their fellow London side at the head of the table. Throw-off on Saturday is at 13.00. The match is followed by the Men’s Premier Handball League clash between Eagles and Nottingham at 15.00 in a great double bill.

Promoted Peninsula host NEM Hawks at Oldham Leisure Centre still searching for their first win of the season. Hawks go into the match with their eye on second place. Eagles brought Hawks three-match winning run to an end in their last match. However, Hawks would leapfrog Eagles if they win and Eagles lose, and Hawks overturn a three-goal deficit. Throw on Sunday is at 11.30.

Cambridge and Olympia and meet at Sporthouse Barking on Sunday. Sixth-place Cambridge have lost their last two games, and have won once this season. They will be bidding to turn that form around. Olympia have won two and lost two, and their last three matches have been close affairs, including a nail-biting 23-22 win against London Angels in their previous game. Throw-off is at 13.30 and precedes the Men’s Premier Handball League match between the two sides at 15.30.
