CEO Update: Lockdown Implications; Community Activation fund; AGM

As you will have seen, a further lockdown has been announced starting on Thursday 5 November until 2 December because of rising Covid-19 cases.

The lockdown period has implications on handball activity and means that all community handball must stop. Sports and Leisure facilities have also been ordered to close from Thursday. The one exception to these rules is ‘educational settings.’ This means that University, school and college teams are still able to train. This is subject to the guidance issued by each establishment, and the availability of appropriate facilities.

We understand how frustrating this is for clubs, especially with plans to shortly restart junior competition.

The Government plans to return to the tier system at the end of this lockdown. We hope that following lockdown, Covid-19 rates will have been suppressed enough for clubs who were previously in Tier 3 or 2 areas to be able to move to lower tiers. We also hope we will be able to return to plans to get junior competition underway.

The landscape regarding Covid-19 is one that changes quickly and we will continue to update clubs according to further Government announcements.

On a more positive note we were delighted to receive the highest number of Community Activation Fund applications so far. The Partnership team approved 19 club projects to support the continuation and development of handball activity. We understand that the planned activity will now need to be put on hold. We will continue to process the initial payments over the coming weeks. We are currently working towards a project end date of 19 March 2021 but this deadline is flexible depending on the ever changing situation. Please continue to liaise with your regional manager.

The AGM, will take place on Thursday 26 November and will be held over Zoom. Official notification will be sent to you all in the next few days.

Thank you for your continued support.
