Clubs begin National Cup Campaigns

The 2019-20 National Cup is the focus this weekend with first-round matches in the women’s and men’s competition.

There are two matches in the Women’s National Cup. North Regional League sides Trafford and Peninsula play each other at 13.30 on Sunday at Sale High School, with a second-round match against 2017 National Cup champions Coventry Sharks awaiting the winners. The other match sees Islington host London GD II as the two South East Regional League outfits meet at London Metropolitan University on Holloway Road, with throw-off at 15.30 on Sunday. Reigning National Cup holders West London Eagles will be the winner’s second-round opponents.

There are three games in the men’s competition. On Saturday Northampton of the Midlands Regional League face London GD II of the South East B Regional League at Moulton College, throw-off at 16.30. The winners will take on West London Eagles in the second round. On Sunday perennial giant-killers Oxford University of the South West Regional League University play Coventry Sharks of the National League North. Throw-off at Faringdon Leisure Centre is on Sunday at 13.30. The winners will play last year’s finalists Cambridge. Islington and Chelsea II, both of South East B Regional League, also meet on Sunday at 17.30, the game at London Metropolitan University following the women’s National Cup clash. London GD await the winners in the second round.
