England Handball has invested a total of £5000 in seven handball clubs after two rounds Pro-Active Club funding applications.
Deva, Liverpool, Bideford Blacks and Reading submitted successful applications in the second round to fund projects.
Deva and Liverpool are reaching out to primary schools to develop under-12 club sessions. Reading and Bideford Blacks are developing strong links with local secondary schools. Reading’s project includes support for newly-trained teachers to develop handball within their placement schools.
These projects, in addition to those delivered by Stroud, Poole and Olympia Handball Clubs, complete the first year of England Handball's newly developed Pro-Active Clubs initiative. All of the clubs that have been funded has worked hard on developing their governance, organisation and structure to meet the initial Pro-Active Clubs funding criteria.
The England Handball Partnerships team has been impressed with the applications received this year. The projects have been realistic, deliverable and varied. They have targeted different groups in terms of age, gender and socio- economic group. The work the clubs have done to meet the Pro-Active Clubs criteria is fantastic and will help sustain their club activities for the future.
