Schools in England are being invited to enter the National Schools Championship - the biggest handball competition of its kind – with entries now open until a deadline of Friday 22nd October.
Organised by England Handball, the tournament is open to boys and girls’ teams in years 7+8 (U13) and 9+10 (U15), starting in November 2021 in the run up to the National finals in June 2022.
The competition begins at a county heats stage with schools organising matches individually, with the format depending on the number of schools taking part in the area. These can either be played home and away, in a triangular tournament, or in schools.
England Handball will then host regional tournaments in a one-day competition, inviting the county winners to play against other teams in the following regional splits; South West, South East, London, East, Midlands, North West and North East.
The final stage, hosted on the weekend of the 18/19th June 2022, will see Nottingham University host the National Finals where the winners of the regional rounds can battle it out for the U13s and U15s girls and boys’ championship titles.
Hosted alongside the England Handball National Cup Finals, the National Schools Competition Finals is a fantastic opportunity for young handball players to experience a professionally organised competition on a national scale alongside some of the very best senior handball in England , says National Partnerships Manager Stacey Andrews.
“For many players, it could be their first taste of competitive handball, and a platform for them to develop their skills further as the competition progresses.
“Handball is a fun and inclusive sport that aids physical and mental wellbeing in young people, and we’re urging schools with any queries about the competition to get in touch before the entry deadline of 22nd October.”
