England Handball Association has launched a new under 13 county cup competition – targeting the age group’s best players from right across the country.
The EHA U13 County Cup has been launched to provide a natural exit route from the association’s National Schools Competition – providing a next step for the boys and girls in years seven and eight who excelled in or enjoyed the popular tournament.
Beginning with regional qualifiers on March 25, the competition’s finals will take place in May. Registrations are now open – and will close on February 22.
Ricardo Vasconcelos, Head of Performance at EHA, said: "The U13 County Cup marks the initial phase of a clear drive towards populating the base of the pyramid at all levels of EHA’s ecosystem.
“Although a smaller piece of a much bigger holistic plan, we hope that the County Cup will pave the way for a sustained and meaningful growth of our sport, as described in our long-term strategy.
“We’re calling on young handballers across the country to lead your county team on this exciting journey. We can’t wait to see it get started.”
Slots for the tournament will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with one registration per county for each gender.
They are open to any coach, teacher or volunteer.
A fee of £35 per team will be paid on confirmation of registration. Initial registration and more information can be found here.
If more than one individual tries to register a team in the same county, EHA will allocate the slot to the first person and put the interested parties in touch, with a view to working together.
