GD and Angels head Women's Premier Handball League

GD beat NEM Hawks, while London Angels came out on top against Peninsula, and West London Eagles won a thriller against on the opening weekend of the Women’s Premier Handball League. GD won 28-20 against Hawks at the Copper Box Arena.

GD led 12-8 at half time against Hawks at the Copper Box, extending their advantage after the break. Aleksandra Stankiewicz headed the scoring charts for GD with eight goals. Lydia Edgar and Caitlin Matthews both scored four times for Hawks.

Angels ran out 22-14 winners against newly-promoted Peninsula. Angels enjoyed the better of the first half, going into the break 14-6 up. The second half was much more even with both sides scoring eight goals. Peninsula’s Jemaine Knott ran out top scorer in the match with nine strikes. Angels shared the goals around as Nikoletta Kurtiova, Reka Pusitai and Nova Saudor all found the back of the net four times.

West London Eagles won a thriller against Cambridge at Sporthouse, beating their opponents by a single goal. Eagles held a 12-7 advantage at half time. Cambridge fought back in the second period and went close to turning the match around as it finished 21-20 to Eagles. Sunniva Ovstebo Naess beat the keeper nine times for Eagles, while Grete Morkvenaite top scored for Cambridge with eight goals.
