Girl's Under-19 Competition: Shropshire go top of North League

Stroud kept up their 100 per cent record to stay top of the girl’s Under-19 South League, while Shropshire moved top of the North League on goal difference.

Stroud ran out 20-16 winners over Poole Phoenix to make it eight wins from eight. However, the defending champions were made to work hard by Phoenix, who held a narrow 9-8 lead at the break. Last year’s losing finalists West London Eagles moved to within a point of second place Bideford Blacks after beating Essex 23-9. Essex lost their other game of the weekend, against Medway Falcons, by 22-26. Storm Dennis meant that Cambridge didn’t travel to the games and their matches against Eagles and Falcons were postponed.

Shropshire beat NEM Hawks 19-18 in a thriller in the North League. Shropshire led 8-6 at half time. Hawks reduced the deficit by a goal in the second period in a nail-biting encounter. Shropshire also won against Warrington Wolves 21-17, a result that saw them move ahead of Hawks at the top of the table. Hawks were involved in another great clash, as they edged past Warrington Wolves 23-22, Wolves just unable to claw back Hawks’ three-goal half-time advantage. Olympia Cannock are in third, ahead of Wolves on goal difference. They beat Nottingham 22-10, and Trafford 23-13. Nottingham also won against Trafford, 21-11.
