Iceland President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson has spoken about his time playing handball when he was a student at Warwick University.
Mr Jóhannesson said: “I had no idea before, but there was a handball team there called the Warwick Jaguars, that was in 1988. I played with them for three years, it was me, two Norwegians, one guy from Germany at one stage and then the home contingent.
“We had a certain advantage as we had already played the game and I enjoyed it a lot.”
Mr Jóhannesson’s brother played over 200 times for Iceland and he added with a smile: “We won the ‘Midlands Cup’ one year – that is my claim to fame.”
