League Structure Proposal Changes: Club Vote Deadline 12 March
Following on from the previous rounds of feedback regarding the league proposals, and the most recent open round tables, England Handball has reviewed the feedback and updated proposals moving forward with a view to the 2020.21 season.
The proposals for the Men's and Women's League have been updated for the 4th time and two final proposals have been generated based on feedback for each league. At the final stage for the 2020.21 season, one of these proposals will be implemented and clubs are invited to vote upon their preferred format which will guide the final decision.
Club voting forms will be sent to club secretaries via email for their vote to be counted. The deadline for clubs to vote is Thursday 12 March.
Summary/Overview of Proposals
Recreational Leagues
England Handball will create recreational leagues, these recreational leagues will sit below the regional leagues and be for developing/emerging teams to play in. Teams will not be required to have ITCs, Membership or player rosters or promotion/relegation. This is a stepping stone into the more formalised version of the game which takes place at Regional League level.
Mens Competiton
Proposal one
Focuses on a regional structure at the start of the season with a tiered based system. Top-performing teams will then move forward into a top division in the 2nd half of the season forming the Premier Handball League. The format provides a reduction in travel and an increase in the number of teams that can progress through to the Premier Handball League by expanding it to 10 places.
Proposal two
Keeps a stand-alone Premier Handball League and reformats the current national league structure to provide a more balanced progression into the Premier Handball League. Creating a realistic stepping stone for teams which wish to progress into the highest league while providing an appropriate 2nd tier for teams.
Womens Competiton
Proposal one
Focuses on a regional structure at the start of the season with a tiered based system, top-performing teams move forward into a top division in the 2nd half of the season forming the Premier Handball League.
Proposal two
Minimal changes to the structure and changes to rules and regulations making it easier for teams to enter the competition at the lower levels of the game.
After multiple reviews, the league changes for the 2020.21 season have been confirmed and clubs are invited to vote on the proposals to determine the final structure.
