Liverpool hosts the UK's largest handball tournament

Handball will be on show in Liverpool this weekend at the 19th Liverpool International Handball Tournament. Clubs from across the UK and Europe will be represented at the event - which has grown into a 24-team format comprised of 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.

All ages and abilities will be in action, with a junior and a wheelchair competition also taking place.

Hosts Liverpool Handball Club is the oldest and one of the most successful handball clubs in the UK, having won every domestic honour. This year is the club’s 50th anniversary, which will ensure the event is extra special.

Saturday’s matches are split between Greenbank Sports Academy and IM Marsh Sports Complex, starting at 08.30.On Sunday all the action is at Greenbank, starting at 08.00. The men’s and women’s finals will be played at 15.30 and 16.00 respectively. With free entrance for all spectators, a full house is expected to enjoy this exciting Olympic team sport.
