Liverpool, Peninsula and Reading win play-off matches

Liverpool will play in mens’ Super-8 next season, while Peninsula secured their place in womens’ Super-8, after winning their play-off matches.

Reading Lions are set for mens’ Championship South action next term after beating Essex Hurricanes in their play-off encounter.

Liverpool won a nail-biting encounter against Brighton. A tight first half finished 11-11. A nerve-jangling second half saw Liverpool edge ahead to win the match 23-21.

Peninsula beat Medway Dragons 34-22 to book their place in the top flight. Laura Black and Gabrielle Howarth both scored seven for Peninsula, while Iwona Mashanda beat the keeper an impressive 11 times for Medway. Dragons have another chance to be promoted when they face Cambridge, who finished bottom of Super-7, in a play-off for the final spot in next season’s eight-team league.

Reading Lions booked their promotion with a 27-13 success against Essex.  Both sides started strongly in defence. Reading took the lead, but Essex brought the scores level before edging into a 6-5 lead. A time-out had the desired affect for Reading as they began to outscore their opponents to take a four-goal lead into the break. Reading pulled away in the second period thanks to a continued strong defence and good attacking play, while Essex suffered a number of two-minute suspensions.
