London GD and Olympia are in action this weekend in the Mens’ British Handball Championships this weekend at Oriam, Herriot Watt University.
Mens’ Premier Handball League champions and England Handball National Cup winners GD face Scottish league runners up Livingston in their play-off match on Saturday. Throw-off is at 18.00.
Before that Olympia – who finished second to GD in the league on goal difference - take on Scottish champions Glasgow at 16.00.
The Final will be played at 13.00 on Sunday 20 May, preceded at 11.00 by the third place play-off.
Ahead of the championships GD coach Jose Roldan said the team had worked as a great unit on and off the pitch this season.
He added: “We have prepared games specifically week-by-week, deciding on combinations, and reading the strengths and weaknesses of our rivals. This has happen with help from the second team coach and players as well.
“I can only congratulate my players for their sacrifice and patience this year. It has been an incredible performance based on team spirit and great respect and trust."
Jose also underlined his admiration for Olympia. He said: “The double’ is well deserved but we cannot forget here a special mention for Olympia’s team. It is by far their best squad I have seen in six years.
“They missed out on winning the league by just one goal in the last game of the season, and this makes them champions as well for me. My sincere respect goes to them and their coach.”
Olympia Chair Diaraye Diallo said: "Olympia is thrilled to participate in the British Championship, both for the challenge and the promotion of our sport.
"The quality of handball keeps improving. The men's league has provided for some great entertainment this season. We look forward to this competition with the Scottish Handball teams and our fellow English club London GD."
The event, which this year is organised and hosted by Scottish Handball, is free for spectators.
