Leeds Beckett have now won back to back men’s titles in the University Plate, with victory at Medway Park this weekend.
They emerged as group winners after victories in the pool stages over Birmingham, Middlesex and Worcester. In the semi-finals, Leeds had a close battle against Kent but won through to the final where they faced Bangor.
Bangor had been group winners after wins over Nottingham and Bath, and a draw against Brighton. In the semi-final they overcame Warwick, but the northerners proved too strong for the Welshmen in the final.
In the women’s event, Loughborough took the trophy home after beating Imperial in the final. These two teams were drawn in the same group, and Loughborough won the group match 10-6 before defeating Nottingham in the semi-final convincingly.
Imperial, going through as group runners-up, won their semi-final against Bangor also convincingly but went down to Loughborough at the final hurdle.
Seventeen men’s teams and ten women’s team contested the Plate at Medway Park, after the success of the University Cup last weekend. It has been a successful season for Loughborough University, who won the women’s title here after also winning the women’s University Cup last weekend. The men were Cup runners-up.
Congratulations to Leeds Beckett and Loughborough!
