The men’s Premier Handball League season still has one match to play but London GD are uncatchable and have their second league title in two years.
GD’s 31-20 victory over Cambridge was enough to see them safe at the top of the table with 11 wins, one draw and two defeats over the season as a whole.
In the other matches, there were wins for Olympia, Eagles and NEM Hawks as Brighton Seahawks forfeited their match.
At half-time, GD led the home team 7-18 and maintained that margin of victory to the final whistle. Marvin Gorgen scored six for the Londoners, and Jose Ballester Beltran netted six for the East Anglians.
Olympia took a narrow one-goal margin of victory over Nottingham to cement their grip on second place in the league. Olympia were three goals up at half-time, but the East Midlanders fought back in the second half to go down by the narrowest of margins. This win is Olympia’s tenth victory of the season and means they finish second in the 2019 league, three points behind London GD.
Nottingham finish sixth, two points behind West London Eagles but it could have been very different with Eagles also being involved in a one-goal margin of victory.
Eagles defeated Warrington Wolves 24-23. This result leaves Wolves in fourth place, unable to catch NEM Hawks in third. Eagles were 13-11 up at half-time, with Lucas Carstens netting eleven times. Morgan Gillet scored seven for Wolves.
The fourth match of the weekend was a forfeit so Hawks took all three points from Brighton Seahawks.
Wolves and Brighton Seahawks are still to play next weekend but London GD are the league champions for the second year running.
