In the only fixture in the men’s Premier Handball League of the weekend, NEM Hawks closed the gap on league leaders London GD.
The Manchester team won 17-21 over the Londoners after being two goals down at half-time. At half-time, GD were in the lead 9-7. Ayrton Gelin netted five times for the Londoners. For Hawks, Jonathan Haworth scored five with Stefan Whaley scoring four.
This puts Hawks into second in the table, only three points behind GD but with a game in hand. It leaves Hawks very much in the running for a league and Cup double, as they are also through to the semi-finals of the National Cup.
The league remains incredibly tight, with Olympia level on points with Hawks and sitting one place behind in third. Warrington Wolves, in fourth, are just one point down. Anything could still happen in the remaining months of the league.
