London GD and Olympia both made it two wins-from-two after the second round of matches in the Men’s Premier Handball League.
GD beat West London Eagles, while Olympia won against Carshalton Titans in another London derby. Nottingham and NEM Hawks got their season’s motoring with victories over Warrington Wolves and Cambridge respectively.
GD were 31-19 winners at West London Eagles. They led 18-9 at the break, extending their lead in a closer second half. William Moore found the back of the net 16 times for GD, while Saimonas Urbutis top scored for Eagles with five strikes. GD top the table ahead of Olympia on goal difference. Eagles, without a win so far are seventh, goal difference separating them from bottom side Warrington Wolves.
Olympia beat new-boys Titans 33-27. The two teams could not be separated in a first half that finished 15-15. However, Olympia scored 18 second-half goals to Titans’ 12 to take maximum points. Titans’ Goncalo Transcoso beat the keeper nine times, while Daniel Bereznicu and Kleyton Lopez scored seven times for Olympia. Titans are fifth in the table with four points, behind Nottingham and NEM Hawks on goal difference, but ahead of Cambridge who also have four points.
NEM Hawks secured a 35-25 win against Cambridge. Leading 18-12 at half time, Hawks remained on top in the second period. Home side Hawks shared the scoring around the team with six goals apiece for Charlie Fletcher, Josh McDaid and Harry Morley. The prolific Alejandro Garcia Costa bagged 11 goals for Cambridge.
Nottingham were comfortable 40-24 victors over Warrington Wolves. The match was finely balanced at the break with the score at 16-12 to Nottingham. The home side produced an impressive second-half performance, scoring 24 to Wolves’ 12 goals to take maximum points. Francisco Pereira scored an amazing 20 times for Nottingham. Morgan Gillet hit the back of the net seven times for Wolves.
