Men's Premier Handball League: North-West derby in round three

It’s a north-west derby this weekend with Warrington Wolves taking on NEM Hawks in a battle of first and third in the men's Premier Handball League.

West London Eagles play newly-promoted Brighton Seahawks and London GD face Nottingham.

After two rounds, the men’s Premier Handball League is highly competitive with close scores right across the board.

Both Wolves and Hawks are unbeaten in the league, with Wolves winning two from two and Hawks recording a win and a draw. Wolves sit on top of the Premier Handball League with a superior goal difference over second-placed Olympia. Hawks are in third.

In the previous round of matches, Hawks drew against London GD whilst Wolves beat Nottingham by just one goal. Saturday’s derby, to be held in Trafford Soccerdome, could be a mouth-watering game with Hawks set to go top of the table if they beat their neighbours. Throw-off is at 13.30.

Eagles play Seahawks in the south coast side’s first season in the top flight. Both clubs are waiting for their first victory of the season, but both went down narrowly in their previous fixture. Seahawks sit below Eagles in the table by virtue of goal difference. Throw-off is at 13.00 on Saturday in Barking Sporthouse.

GD will face a Nottingham side which has also enjoyed a strong start to the season. After beating Cambridge in round one, the Midlanders went down by one goal to table-toppers Wolves in round two. GD are searching for their first win of the new season having drawn against Hawks last time around. They were the league and cup champions last season.

The teams meet on Saturday at 14.00 in Medway Park. This match will be followed by GD's women's team against University of Loughborough.

London GD will be heading to Medway Park the following weekend as well, to play Scottish club Livingston in their European Handball Federation men's Challenge Cup opener. For more information click here.

Cambridge and Olympia are not in action this weekend.
