NEM Hawks beat leaders Nottingham in a thriller to themselves go top of the Men’s Premier Handball League.
London GD won against Olympia to go second, while at the other end of the table West London claimed maximum points against Cambridge.
Hawks were 27-26 winners against Nottingham. The teams couldn’t be split at the break, with the score 14-14, before Hawks edged the second period. Aaron Bradley-Shankar and Tamim Albashouri both bagged six goals for Hawks. Nottingham’s Benjamin Howard top scored in the match with seven strikes. The victory sees Hawks move onto 27 points at the top. Nottingham, on 26 points, drop to third, behind GD on goal difference.
GD overcame Capital-city rivals Olympia 21-13, extending their lead in the second half after the teams went in at the break with GD leading 10-4. Felix Schawaller bagged seven goals for GD. Olympia shared the goals around, David Chodyra beating the keeper three times. Olympia have 22 points, but have played a match less than the top three.
Eagles, in fifth, moved onto 15 points thanks to their 29-26 win against Cambridge. Eagles finished a close first half with a 15-13 lead, extending their advantage by a further goal after the break. Cambridge’s Max Grant was the match’s top scorer with nine goals, while Eagles’ Wang Tseuk To found the back of the net seven times. Cambridge remain in sixth on 12 points, one ahead of bottom side Carshalton Titans, who have two games in hand on the two teams above them.
