Olympia moved clear at the top of the Men’s Premier Handball League with victory over Cambridge.
London GD won against bottom side West London Eagles to move in to second spot, and NEM Hawks ran out winners against Carshalton Titans.
Olympia beat Cambridge 30-25. The London side led 15-9 at the break and extended their advantage in the second period. Daniel Bereznicu top scored for Olympia with eight strikes, while the ever-reliable Alejandro Garcia Costa beat the keeper seven times for Cambridge. The result sees Cambridge in sixth spot in the table, a point ahead of Eagles who’ve played a game less.
GD overcame Eagles 23-12 in a Capital city clash. GD went into half time leading 11-4. The second half was a closer affair but GD were always in control. Ben Luyten scored five goals for GD, while Mehdi Kaabache and Alexander Rauner both weighed in with four strikes. Deividas Krukauskas found the back of the net five times for Eagles. GD sit on 17 points, one behind Olympia, although both teams will be aware that Nottingham, in third, are just two points further back, with two games in hand.
NEM Hawks won 27-21 at Titans, after leading 13-9 at half time. Mauro Cardano led the way for Hawks with six goals, while Ryan Goodwin scored five. Titans Adam Latter was the game’s top scorer with and impressive 10 goals. Hawks are fifth in the table, on 12 points and, like Nottingham have two games in hand on the top two. Titans are a place behind them, ahead of Cambridge on goal difference.
