Olympia were crowned women’s champions at the Liverpool International Tournament, while Irish side Astra took the men’s crown.
Olympia finished second in their group, losing to table-toppers Liverpool 10-9 in a thrilling match. NEM Hawks beat last year’s winners Bergen in the other group, heading the table with the Norwegian side in second spot.
That set up semi-finals between Liverpool and Bergen, and Hawks and Olympia. Bergen won against Liverpool in another closely fought match, while Olympia overcame Hawks. Olympia came out on top against Bergen in the final. Liverpool and Hawks played out a draw to share third spot.
In the women’s Plate competition Astra beat Bristol.
In the men’s competition Liverpool topped their group with four-wins-from four matches, included a win against NEM Hawks – who also qualified for the second stage along with Astra. In the other group Tryst, Coslada and Hastu made it through to the next round.
In the three-team second stage Hawks gained revenge against Liverpool. Both teams qualified for the semi-finals, along with Astra and Coslada.
In tight last-four matches Astra won against Liverpool, and Coslada beat Hawks, Astra running out winners against Coslada in the final.
Liverpool finished third in the competition, with Hawks in fourth spot.
In the men’s plate competition Riga beat Bristol HC. Liverpool Handball club would like to thank all the teams who took part. The club would also like to thanks the EHA referees and referees from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, as well as Alysha Martin and Cesar Castillo for overseeing the whole weekend that saw 51 games over 400 goals.
