Guildford Sabres play Essex Hurricanes in the England Handball Mens’ National Shield, looking to go all the way after falling at the final hurdle last year.
Defeat in the 2018 final to Coventry Sharks has spurred Sabres on to a phenomenal 2019 season. To qualify for the final, Sabres overcame Reading Lions in the semi-final 30-25.
Men’s team manager Dan Sullivan can’t wait for the final on 11 May, part of the National Finals weekend, held at Derby Arena.
He said: “We have worked hard over the course of the season and are delighted to be back in the final for the second year in a row. We have had some fantastic additions to our squad and have been training hard ready for the 11 May.
“We have had a tough season but have shown we have the resilience and teamwork to find ourselves in this position again. We have played some amazing teams throughout this competition. A special mention goes to Newcastle for making the 642-mile round trip to Guildford but for also being true sportsmen.
“The final will be a physical game and they have some very good players, but we hope to come out on top this year. The team spirit is very high at the moment and we are working hard to prepare physically and mentally.”
