Staff from Warrington Wolves Handball Club travelled to German side SG Flensburg to get an insight how its academy works and understand elements of its success.
SG Flensburg play in the German Bundesliga and are among the top six teams in Europe. They have been operating their academy for the last three years.
Wolves enjoyed the opportunity to share ideas and plans with Flensburg Sports Director Sascha Zollinger and Academy Director Michael Doring.
They also observed under-17, under-18, under-23 and first-team training sessions, and enjoyed watching the first-team in action as they beat Wetzlar at the Flensburg Arena.
Wolves will use the trip to look at ways the club can improve its own players technically and physically.
Plans are in place for players from Wolves to travel to Germany to train at the academy, and for Flensburg coaches to come over to Warrington.
Bill Baillie, Head Coach at Warrington Wolves said: “It was a real privilege to meet the academy staff and the head coach. This will give us some insight into how to work towards our own pathway, and develop the club’s vision.
“We would like to thank the SG Fensburg Academy for their assistance, cooperation and openness and wish them good luck for the future.”
