Wolves top Men's Premier Handball League on goal difference

Defending champions Warrington Wolves top the Men’s Premier Handball League on goal difference following an opening-day 35-24 win against Liverpool.

Wolves led 18-11 at the break against promoted Liverpool at Trafford Soccerdome. Rafik Tahraoui top-scored for Wolves with nine strikes. Liam Welsby weighed in with seven goals, and Chris McDermott and Nate Green scored five and six times respectively. Liam Hughes beat the keeper nine times for Liverpool, while Filipe Santos got on the scoresheet five times.

London GD beat NEM Hawks 28-23 at the Copper Box Arena. A close first half saw the home side lead 14-11. The second half was even tighter, GD extending their lead by just two further goals. Hawks Jamal Braithwaite top scored in the match with 12 goals. Pedro Ribeiro found the back of the net seven times for GD.

Cambridge got their season off to a winning start with a 26-20 victory against West London Eagles at Sporthouse. Cambridge trailed by one goal at half time with the scores at 11-12. However, they turned things around in the second period to take maximum points. Florian Stroehl weighed in with eight goals for Cambridge, while Alejandro Garcia Costa scored seven times. Romualdas Sakovicius found the back of the net five times for Eagles.
