Women's National Shield: two of last year's quarter-finalists hoping to go one better

The women’s National Shield quarter-finals take place this weekend, with only Manchester and Guildford Sabres surviving from last year’s competition.

Guildford Sabres versus Medway Falcons is the opening match of the weekend. Sabres lost to London Angels II in the 2018 quarter-finals so will hope to go one better this year. Throw-off is 16.00 at The Edge Leisure Centre on Saturday.

London GD II will play University of Bath. GD II were semi-finalists in the Cup last year, and beat Bristol the previous match in this year’s competition. University of Bath play in the Regional League South West, where they are currently second. Throw-off is at 12.30 at Leyton Score Centre on Sunday.

Brighton play Northampton on Sunday. Northampton defeated Newcastle Vikings in the previous round. Brighton play their league handball in the Regional League South East 2, where they are currently unbeaten having won five from five. Throw-off is at 11.30 at Worthing Leisure Centre on Sunday.

Manchester lost to eventual winners Reading Lionesses in the 2018 National Shield semi-finals, and in this year’s competition have a bye to the semi-finals as their opponents have withdrawn.
