Women's Premier Handball League: Bottom side GD beat leaders Olympia

Bottom beat top as London GD won against Olympia in the Women’s Premier Handball League, while West London Eagles secured victory over Cambridge Angels.

GD took maximum points with an 18-16 win over table-toppers Olympia. They led 9-6 at half time. Olympia edged the second period but could only reduce the deficit by one goal. Eva Salinas scored five goals for GD, while Yoana Markova equalled that tally for Olympia. The win moves GD onto 12 points, three behind fourth placed NEM Hawks, although they have played a game more. Olympia, on 17 points, have seen their lead at the to cut to one point, although they’ve played a match less than Eagles in second place.

Eagles ran out 22-17 winners against Cambridge Angels, fighting back after trailing 11-8 at half time. Eagles’ Chiara Bolze led the scoring charts in the game with seven goals. Grete Morkvenaite beat the keeper five times for Cambridge. Angels are third on 14 points, but have played two more matches than Hawks in fourth on 13 points, and one more than GD on 12 points.
