Women's Premier Handball League: Defending Champions Olympia start with win

Defending champions Olympia head the Women’s Premier Handball League after the first round of matches following a 39-7 win against Reading Lionesses.

Newly-promoted Cambridge beat West London Eagles 24-20, while London GD secured a 25-19 victory against NEM Hawks.

Olympia were always in control against Reading and held a 22-3 advantage at half time. Olympia shared the goals around, with five strikes apiece for Denisa Paduraru, Malwina Spek, Patricia Einfeldt and Stefanie Hertling. Johanna Delsante, Karolina Domzalska and Stefania Tzourmana all scored twice for Lionesses.

Cambridge returned to the Premier Handball League after a year’s absence with a 24-20 win against West London Eagles. Leading 13-10 at half time, they extended their lead by a further goal by full time. Cambridge’s Nikoletta Rau headed the scoring charts in the match with seven goals. Noelly Chevallier,  Zoe Lacour and Wiktoria Povyszynska all bagged four goals for Eagles.

Christina Rehnberg scored eight times for London GD as they beat NEM Hawks 25-19. GD led 15-8 at the break. Hawks showed their fighting spirit to edge the second half, but were unable to close the gap. Eliza Morgan, Sophie Unsworth and Gabrielle Howarth all beat the keeper three times for Hawks.
