Third-placed West London Eagles will hope to narrow the deficit on the teams ahead of them this weekend when they host second-from-bottom London Angels in a local derby in the Women’s Premier Handball League.
The two capital city teams will throw-off at 13.00 on Saturday at Barking Sporthouse and, victory for the Eagles along with results going their way, would see them reduce the five-point deficit on current leaders London GD if they are beaten by Coventry Sharks, and may see them overtake second-placed NEM Hawks if the Manchester team lose their match against Olympia. Crucially, the Eagles have two games in hand over the Hawks and one over GD so are looking ominous in third place. The Angels will want to put a margin between themselves and bottom-placed Peninsula, with whom they are level on points but have two games in hand. Both London teams come into this match on the back of victories in their previous games.
NEM Hawks host Olympia, and London GD travel to Coventry Sharks in the Sunday match.
Victory or a draw for Hawks over fourth-placed Olympia will see them maintain their second place in the league, having lost their previous match to London GD. Olympia are coming into this game on the back of a victory over Peninsula. Both teams will be looking to take maximum points from this top-half clash, which throws off at 14.30 on Saturday at Powerleague Trafford Sportsdome.
In the final match this weekend, leaders London GD travel to the Midlands to take on fifth-placed Coventry Sharks in a 15.30 throw-off on Sunday at Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre. The Londoners are unbeaten this season and have a remarkable goal difference of 72. Coventry suffered a narrow defeat to London Angels in their previous game, and with a game in hand over the team immediately above them in the league, will hope to spring a surprise here to start their assault on the top half of the table.
