London GD went top of the Women’s Premier Handball League on goal difference after ending Cambridge’s 100% record in a thriller.
At the other end of the table Reading Lionesses and London Angels drew, while West London Eagles beat NEM Hawks.
GD looked comfortable at half time as they led 12-7. However, Cambridge showed why they have been early pace-setters, reducing GD’s advantage to one goal by full time as the match finished 20-19 to GD. Mayte Perez scored eight goals for GD, while Agnes Foeglein top scored for Cambridge with five strikes. Cambridge drop to second, behind GD.
Bottom sides Lionesses and Angels drew 28-28. Angels held the advantage at half time with a 17-11 lead. The second half saw Reading fight back, reversing the first half scores as it finished 28-28. Karolina Dauksaite scored an impressive 12 goals for Reading, while Viktoria Takas beat the keeper 11 times for Angles. Reading stay bottom, and Angels sixth.
Eagles beat Hawks 28-22, extending their lead in the second half after holding a 15-11 advantage at the break. Zoe Lacour scored eight goals for Eagles, although Hawks’ Athalia Ibanga top scored in the match, finding the back of the net nine times. Eagles are fourth and Hawks are fifth.
