Women's Premier Handball League: Olympia beat Lionesses to stay top

Olympia stayed top of the Women’s Premier Handball League with a comfortable win over bottom side Reading Lionesses.

London GD edged past NEM Hawks, while Cambridge returned to winning ways with victory over West London Eagles.

Olympia beat Reading 44-7. They dominated from the start and led 21-3 at half time. Olympia spread the scoring through the team, Alina Sarodoc top scoring with six goals. Stefania Tzourmana scored four of Lionesses goals. Olympia have 19 points, while Reading have seven points.

GD won a nail-biting encounter against Hawks 21-20 at Oldham Leisure Centre. The London side held a 13-11 advantage at the break and saw their slender lead reduced in the second period. GD’s Christina Rehnberg beat the keeper six times for GD. Athalia Ibanga and Becky Barnes both struck four times for Hawks. GD are second on 17 points ahead of Cambridge on goal difference. Hawks sit in fifth on 13 points.

Cambridge won 27-22 against Eagles. Cambridge enjoyed the better of the first half to lead 16-9 at the break. Eagles reduced the gap in the second half, but it was Cambridge who took maximum points. Grete Morkvenaite bagged eight goals for Cambridge, while Noelly Chevallier scored seven for Eagles. Eagles are fourth in the table on 15 points.
