Olympia have completed their unbeaten season with victory over University of Loughborough, which gives them the women’s Premier Handball League title.
NEM Hawks and London GD will play their final fixture next weekend but league leaders Olympia cannot be caught.
West London Eagles and London GD also won their final league fixtures, with NEM Hawks taking three points by dint of Reading Lionesses having forfeited.
With twelve wins and two draws to their name, Olympia have had an incredible season and are the only unbeaten team in either Premier Handball League. They defeated Loughborough 15-30, a result which also leaves the students at the bottom of the table. The students are level with Peninsula on points but fall behind on goal difference.
Olympia were 9-14 ahead at half-time and extended that lead to a fifteen-goal margin by the final whistle.
Eagles defeated London Angels 34-15. Their three points here are crucial as they try to maintain third position in the table. If Hawks are victorious in their match against GD then Hawks will leapfrog Eagles into second, but if GD triumph then Eagles will keep their third position.
Eagles ran into a 14-8 lead at half-time. Sunniva Ovstebo Naess impressed with eleven goals on the scoresheet for Eagles, and Ariele Osmundsen netted four for Angels. This result means Angels finish the year in fifth position in the league.
London GD were victorious over Peninsula 26-32 but the Wirral team fought hard all the way. They trailed by just two at half-time, but GD extended their lead to six by the final whistle. Eva Salinas scored twelve for the Londoners and Natalie Black and Gabrielle Howarth replied with seven each for Peninsula.
NEM Hawks took three points against Reading Lionesses, who forfeited their final league match.
Olympia’s unbeaten season has delivered them the 2019 league title.
