The Elite Performance Academy provides an exciting opportunity for players to access a full-time training programme, with provision from expert coaches and support staff.
Based at Loughborough College, known for its sporting prestige, the EPA allows players to continue their academic pursuits by studying a range of A-Level and BTEC courses in parallel to their bespoke training programme.
In addition to their traditional qualifications, players also have the opportunity to enrol on the EHA Diploma in Sporting Excellence where they will learn a variety of skills and behaviours that are associated with high performance sport – click here for more information.
The players enjoy an individually tailored development programme which includes competitive outlets with club teams competing in the EHA league structures.
The EPA is led by a dedicated coach - João Castro. João has a wealth of experience in both professional coaching environments, and as an educator with the Portuguese Handball Federation and Higher Education institutions. He holds the EHF Master Coach PRO license and his coaching experience spans both the men’s and women’s game and through youth academies, senior clubs and national teams. His most recent assignment was as assistant coach in the Spanish Asobal with BM Guadalajara.
The players are housed ‘on-site’ in the colleges halls of residence that is supported fully by the college’s excellent student welfare and pastoral team.
The EPA is open to players that have represented the England Handball Regional Academy programme but applicants must also meet the academic standards required for their chosen course of study at Loughborough College.
