The England Handball Futures programme culminates next week as the boys and girls U17 squads head to Viborg, Denmark for the Generation Cup - the first time the tournament has run after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The squads have been selected from the Regional Academy programmes, over the course of the 2021-22 season and is an opportunity for England Handball to benchmark our talent against our European counterparts.

The girl’s squad is being led by Great Britain U17 coach Matt Durber who is excited about the prospect of taking promising group of girls to this tournament saying “I’m looking forward to taking this group to their first overseas competition, it’s a strong squad and expectations are high so it’ll be interesting to see how we get on”.

Alexander Themis is leading the boy’s squad. He is approaching the tournament with curiosity with it being his first taste of an overseas event. He has been working closely with Elite Performance Coach, Joao Castro and Great Britain M18’s to aid the squads preparation for the event and is hoping the efforts in this preparation is rewarded with strong performances on the courts in Denmark.
